About the Breed

About Aussies
Australian Shepherds are an intelligent, loyal and eager to please. Aussies are extremely smart and love to be with people. They also tend to have a lot of energy, and love it when they have a job to do, whether it be to take a walk, compete in events, or herd livestock. As long as they are busy, they are happy. If not given enough activity or room to play, they can sometimes get into trouble. Aussies typically live 12 to 15 years, and many people say that once they own an Aussie, they will always own Aussies. The body will be slightly longer than they are tall. They do require some grooming, but are by no means high maintenance. Depending on the time of year, thickness of their coat and length of hair which will vary, you should plan on brushing them once a week on average.

Australian Shepherds are a herding breed but they also excel at Frisbee, agility, fly ball, obedience and conformation. They are also great with kids! We raise our puppies with children so they are excellent with children. They are naturally protective, devoted, affectionate, and very loyal.

There are 4 colors – black, blue merle, red and red merle. They may or may not have white and/or copper trim or points. Standard size Aussies can range in height from 18-23” tall at the withers and weigh between 34-60 lbs.

Miniature Aussies
Miniature Aussies range in height from 14 to 18 inches (35 to 46 cm) at the withers and weigh between 17 and 30 pounds (9 to 14 kg). Coat colors are the same as those for Australian Shepherds; blue merle, red merle, black, and red, all with or without copper and white trim. Eyes may be any combination of brown, amber, hazel, blue, or marbled.

Toy Aussies
The size range for the Toy Australian Shepherd is between ten and fourteen inches measured at the highest point of the withers. They are not officially categorized as a Toy until they are 1 year old.
